Monroe County System of Care Got Dreams Awards a community celebration that recognizes youth with emotional and behavioral challenges who are reaching their dreams and the families, other adults and organizations who support them, had an overwhelming response. Over 300 were in attendance and the keynote speaker, Mr. Richard Santana spoke from his heart.
Mr. Santana came on stage in his gang garb using a hard Latino accent speaking to the youth, letting them know that they did not have to travel the same path that he had. He told the gut-wrenching story of how he was shot and left for dead, but he knew his life could not end there. Had it not been for someone seeing something special in him, that he himself did not even see, he never would have been the success he is today. He encouraged providers, educators, families to continue to helping our youth achieve their dreams because without their help many of our youth would certainly be lost.
